Round Tower Under 12 hurling mentor Eric Byrne reports from O’Tooles GAC Wall Ball competition, at which Round Tower was strongly represented.
The weather was an enemy this weekend for our Under 12 hurlers as St.Kevins cancelled their Easter tournament due to bad pitch conditions. But Bullets where flying in O’Tooles GAC – hurling bullets that is, as their hurling wall passed a late inspection Good Friday morning, 29th March, and play began at 10 bells as the snow drifts had receded from the previous night. Towers two representatives were Cian Proctor and Alex O’Neill from the Under 12 hurlers and boy did they do the club proud. No sooner had their parents pulled into the carpark that the lads ran up to the organisers at the hurling wall.
The lads were so eager they were called first from about 40 players. There was big pressure to go first, but they held their nerve and started very strong with scores of 180 and 265 to get the competition going. There were strong starts also from Raheny, Castleknock and host club O’Tooles. Northside clubs were well represented with Na Fianna, St.Peregrines, St.Brigids and Skerries Harps also showing they are no slouches in the hurling department. As the second round got started, the Towers lads, leading the chase, went first again, and greatly increased their scores to 220 and 330. This score saw both lads finish in the top ten from 40 players, with Alex O’Neill finishing third overall and the spoils going to a Raheny player on the scorline of 340 points. A very strong outing from the Towers boys and a great competition run by O’Tooles on Good Friday morning. The club was well represented with a big showing from parents and teammates alike, and special mention to Catherine Moran who was on hand to give that extra boost to the lads. A great morning was had by all. Towers Abú!
