Round Towers U8 Girls footballers played Kilmacud Crokes at Deer park in Kilmacud today, Sunday 11th May 2014 and team mentor Ken Byrne provides the following report.

Towers fielded two teams with 16 of our Girls getting to play the best part of 40 minutes of football. As mentors we asked that the Girls keep to their positions and mark their opponents with an emphasis on the hand passing and not over-carrying.

In the back lines Aishling Mc Grattan, Abiagail O’ Brien, Emma Gilvary, Mia Ezan and Fiona Jackson cleared their lines playing the ball swiftly into the midfield.  In the midfield Aoife Robertson, Muirinn Ward, Maria Byrne, Emma O’ Brien, Sadhbh Keane, Lauren Fitzpatrick and Eabha Brady attacked the ball well maintaining possession feeding Towers forward lines. Eabha Brady took these games in both hands and won every ball she challenged for. The forwards really did themselves and supporters proud; scoring with some fabulous punt kicking and they hassled the back lines of Crokes with one handed tackles. The forwards included Shónagh Byrne, Layla Lawlor, Rebecca Nolan and Abbie Hollowed.

The travelling supporters for Round Towers got great value from these enjoyable games. They act as the ‘extra Girl’ giving continuous encouragement to all the players.

Well done to all!

The mentors for the U8 Girl Footballers are actively looking to increase the number of Girls on the panel. The team trains every Saturday at 2pm in Monastery Road. All Girls born 2006-2007 welcome.  This team is having fun and every player gets to play. Tell your friends.
