Round Towers 9-0 Naomh Bríd 4-1, 12th September 2013
This game started off at furious pace and within three minutes Towers were one goal up when Hannah Clark, with a quickly taken free, set up Martha Kirk who slammed the sliotar into the net, writes Paul Doran. A great run some minutes later from Lauren Davis resulted in Aibí Ward getting ahead of her rivals and Towers went two goals up. Ten minutes gone and Ward was in the action again with a smart kick of the ball, which made it easy for Martha Kirk to secure a third goal. It was all Towers by now and at the 20th minute mark, the irrepressible Martha Kirk took her opponents on and showed great confidence to pass the sliotar to Chloe who left Towers four goals up. Naomh Bríd did not know what hit them and it seemed as if the road back down the M50 was going to be a long sorrowful journey, but they deserve credit due to their sustained fightback, but the Towers back line held firm, marshalled by Fiona Walsh and Croia Byrne, both in outstanding form. The much needed rest and team talk did Naomh Brid a world of good as they scored within minutes of the restart from a brilliant free. Their number five was a constant threat, but the Towers midfield led by Saoirse Walsh, Aibí Ward and Caoilfhionn Doran were determined to keep them at bay. Three more goals by the visitors and Towers were struggling until up stepped Emma O’ Malley who fired a brilliantly taken free into the net. This goal inspired the young camogs and within ten minutes Ward had got her hat trick which was well deserved on her 13th birthday. Mia Finnegan struck the back of the net at the death with Martha Kirk also completed her hat trick, however Namoh Bríd did close with a fine point from play. The Tower’s team was fantastic today, and it would remiss not to mention the great play by their captain Hannah Clark, as well as the crucial contributions of Shannon Sheridan , the whole team were fantastic.
