Round Towers Clondalkin 4-12 v St. Sylvesters 2-11
After 2 good wins in earlier rounds, Towers had reason to be confident as they faced Sylvesters in Monastery Road Sunday morning, writes Mick O’Meara The boys from Malahide have always proven tough opposition however so nothing could be taken for granted. Towers started well and built up a lead after landing some good long range points. Syls kept in touch from placed balls though and a goal before the break left them only 2 points behind at halftime, 1-6 to 1-4. So all to play for in the 2nd half but the Clondalkin lads were not going to be denied. Despite more converted frees by Syls, Towers showed great heart, desire, skill and teamwork to run out very worthy winners on a 4-12 to 2-11 scoreline.
Very difficult to pick out one player given the team ethic on show but Ben English capitalised on the great individual performances of many others to finish with 3-4 and thus earns MOTM – congrats Ben.
Special mention to the five u14 players who continue to add to this team both in games and at training. Thanks as always to all the parents for their sideline support and to everyone else from the Club who cheered the lads on today.
We now have a County final v Whitehall Colmcille to look forward to on Sunday 22nd October which is a fantastic and well deserved reward for all the work done by a number of people over the years, most especially the players themselves. We hope everyone in the Club gets behind them in a fortnight’s time for what promises to be a great occasion. Tower Abú.
