Match Report: Round Towers(Dublin) Vs Ardclough(Kildare)
On Saturday 24th July, a strong Round Towers Juvenile team took to the field at Croke Park during the half time interval of the Dublin vs Louth match to play Ardclough of Kildare. An understandably nervous start by both teams was watched by a crowd of over 47,000. Round Towers began to assert themselves in midfield with Jasmin O’Neill and Adam Behan combining well to set up Matthew McLoughlin for the first point of the game. Goals from Craig Fleet and Eoin Murphy followed, to give Towers a 2-1 to 0-0 lead. Ardclough began to find possession around the middle of the park but timely interceptions by Leigh Wilson and Neill Murphy, and some good goal keeping, by Graham Proctor, kept the Kildare lads scoreless. Paul Lyons of Towers set up McLoughlin for a fine goal before a well taken free kick from Shane Scappatichi and a point from Behan brought the final score to 3-3 to 0-0 on the day. It was a match, well marshalled by referee Dean Alford and played in the spirit of the GAA. The players did their club, mentors and parents proud!
