Towers ladies football team started off the season with a win in the Marianne Costello Memorial 9-a-side competition held in St.Peregines on March 13th. A panel of 14 girls were chosen including newcomers Sinead Kearns, Clare McGinty and Roisin Byrne. This was also the first outing under Paul Burke, the 2010 manager.
The girls put in three impressive performances in their group games. Building up high scores, and with Emily Hamill hammered home goals, the girls beat local rivals Lucan Sarsfields, Cuala, and hosts St.Peregines. Impressive performances were seen from Eimear McGrath who cleaned up at full back, Suzanne Murray and Andrea Bowe who provided support play from the half back line continuously. In the semi final Towers beat the fancied Mayo team who had won the competition for the last two years. In this match Ruth Collins was at full steam along with Sinead Kearns at midfield. Towers again faced Cuala but this time in the final match. Towers worked hard thorughout the game and picked off scores through Suzanne Murray, Emily Hamill and the ever impressive Andrea Bowe. Cuala had a few chances which were defendly greatly by Natasha Daly who was a trojan throughout the day.
The final whistle was followed by the presentation of the cup which was received by captain Suzanne Murray. Medals were given out and the great honour of Player of the Tournament was given to the much deserved Andrea Bowe. Well done to all involved in the day, thanks to support team of Ciara Martin, Catherine Roche and Caoimhe Joyce. Special thanks to Jay Joyce who helped us out on the day.
