The Junior A footballers were left to ponder what could’ve been as they played out a draw against a strong Good Counsel side featuring former Towers Centre Back John O’Brien.

Good Counsel set the early pace and led by 0-4 to 0-1 after twenty minutes before great work from Tom Curran & Dinny Mackin fed James Fleming who finished cooly from close range. A 21 yeard Justin McGrane free pushed Towers ahead before a hatrick of free’s from John O’Brien put Counsel into the lead by two at half time.

Towers had started minus the services of several key players in Paul Clifford, Alan Milton, Paul Lanigan, Conan O’Broin and Gordon Gallagher and lost captain Ger Hickey due to a back injury shortly after half time following an early first half collision. Barry Gallagher who himself was returning from injury replaced Hickey and scored a fine point shortly after coming on.

Towers led by a point with five minutes to go and should’ve had two more goals through Tom Curran & Dinny Mackin who fired over from close range, but a late Counsel point levelled it and both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Special mention to Towers Runaí Dean Alford who put in an excellent shift in goal and continues to catch the eye sporting a set of protective head gear somewhere between those modelled by Peter Cech & Hannibal Lecter!.
