There’ll be blood, sweat and tears in Clondalkin on Friday April 1st when members of Round Tower GAA Club get ready to rumble and take to the ring to raise money for the sporting organisation.
After ten weeks of intensive training with, among others, Olympic Gold Medallist Michael Carruth 36 boxers, male and female, will lace up their gloves at the Red Cow Moran Hotel to compete in front of a crowd of around 700 and take part in the club’s first ever White Collar Boxing Fundraiser.
It promises to be an excellent night’s entertainment and not only will there be a series of three-round bouts to get the crowd excited and off their feet, there will also be an auction of top class sporting memorabilia. This will include signed Dublin GAA, All-Stars and rugby jerseys; boxing gloves signed by Katie Taylor, Kenneth Egan and Michael Carruth; and other sporting goods.
This will be a vital fundraiser for a club that fields over 40 teams playing football, hurling, ladies football and camogie. The club caters for those who are from a nursery age group up to senior level.
Speaking ahead of the event, Club Secretary Niall Connaughton says: “All those taking to the ring have been training intensely for the past three months and their dedication and commitment will come to fruition on the night. This promises to be a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity for those involved and Round Tower GAA Club is extremely grateful to all who are taking part for the sacrifice and commitments they have made. This is a vital fundraiser for the club and we would encourage members and the wider Clondalkin community to come out and support this enjoyable night of top-class entertainment.”
The anticipation surrounding the event has been building among club members and the wider Clondalkin community for a number of weeks, and a series of videos promoting it have added to the excitement. With friends ready to go toe to toe and indeed talk of some grudges being settled, it promises to be night of excellent action.
Having provided training ahead of the big bout, Michael Carruth take to the ring on the night but much to the relief of the competitors, it will just be to MC the event. Doors for the fundraiser will open at 7pm and the first bout will get underway at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at €20 and can be purchased in Round Tower GAA Club or on the night itself.
