Round Towers 3-17 v Clannagael 0-02
Round Towers Ladies footballers got their senior year off to a flying start with an impressive win over Intermediate Championship winners Clannagael. The cup game was the first of the season for both sides. Towers fielded a strong team with newcomers Geraldine McTavish and Jean Tyrell, while also bettering with the return of Catherine ‘Roger’ Roche.
Towers took the upper hand from the start led by team captain Ruth Collins and vice captain Eimear McGrath. Hannah Tyrell opened the scoring with a goal quickly followed by a point. Nathalie Behan and Sinead Kearns worked hard at half forward and midfield to set up Hannah and Emily Hamill for scores. Catherine Roche added 1-2 to the score before half time. The defence held tight throughout the half with impressive and strong performances from Eimear McGrath and Andrea Bowe.
Nathalie Behan got the scoring started in the second half with a point set up by Aisleen Milton at half forward. With the game firmly in hand, Towers introduced some subs. Caroline O’Sullivan was impressive at corner back while Pamela Dunne got stuck in and worked hard. A few more points were tagged onto the end score. Emma Redmond in goal kept a clean sheet, with a super save in the second half which seen her dive at full reach.
