Clontarf 2-15
Round Towers 1-9
Round towers junior ladies football team played Clontarf on a windy Wednesday evening on May 7th. After a rushed journey out there it took a while for the towers ladies to settle and clontarf built up a lead by a few points. Lauren Dowling playing at centre half back led the revival sending in long ball into the full forward line of Caitriona McGrath, Caroline Tormey and Kate Marrow. Using the wind to their advantage Towers added two points to the board courtesy of Sarah Jane Hecker. Caitriona McGrath added two into this. Caroline Tormey set up Sarah Jane for a screamer of a goal just a few minutes later. Eve McDonagh and Pamela Tormey worked hard at midfield with good support from Fiona Reid. Clontarf added to two goals just before half time through clever overlapping. The second half showed the ability of this towers team has through hard work from each corner of the pitch. Jessie O’Brien and Roisin Keating showed great defensive skills in the full back line including several blocks. Lauren Dowling, Fiona Reid and Catherine Deane pushed forward from the backs and help set up some great scoring opportunities. Olivia Newman converted two of these chances, and worked tirelessly to defend the kick out. Georgina Johnson playing at half forward added to the team performance and was unfortunate not to get on the scoreboard. Sarah Jane and Pamela Tormey added extra points to the tally. Unfortunately despite the great team work and passing from Towers, the scores weren’t enough on the board but showed great potential for this team. Clontarf were eventual winners in a hard won match.
