As we approach Championship Final Monday, Reeling in the Years recalls an excellent Championship win for Towers from the not too distant past!
The clipping is from the Evening Herald 11th May 2006. Niall Scully’s report states: “Hold the back page – the aristocrats of Dublin football, Kilmacud Crokes, returned to the losers dressing-room at Parnell Park last night. Outside the ground shook in Donnycarney. This second round SFC defeat was not a shock – it was a sensation.”
The report describes it as a wonderful night for Towers and complements the hard graft and industry that summed up the teams conviction. Current players are to the fore. Ciaran Corrigan sets up Mick Hallows for the games only goal. Brian Costello kicks “one of the finest points of the hour” and “a superb Ian Ward effort” edges Towers ahead. Also to line out that day were present stars Derek Murray, Mark Taylor, Stephen McGibney, Cathal Carty and Eoin Moran.
