UNDER 15 FOOTBALL “C” SHIELD FINAL

After a long hard season towers u-15 team finally got their hands on silverware with a good win over fingallians in the shield final played in Lawless Park Swords last Sunday morning. Towers played against a slight breeze in the first half and Fingallinas were first to score with a point after 2 mins. That was to be their last score of the half as Towers slowly got to grips with the game. An excellent goal from Stephen Bracken from an acute angle put Towers in front and further points from Conor O’Shea, Kevin McGibney and Stephen himself and a second goal from Kevin MacGibney gave towers a half time lead of 2-5 to 0-1. Towers were reduced to 14 men after 20 mins when Dylan Phelan who was commanding at centre half back was shown a straight red. Conor O’Shea moved to half back with Adam Doyle taking up the number 6 position. The Towers defence dealt with any threat that fingallians posed and Sean Ryan was very confident under the high ball.
Towers had the breeze in the second half which was beginning to strengthen and the 5 forwards began to roam to great effect. When Stephen Bracken scored his second goal 10 minutes into the half it gave towers an unassailable lead. Fingallians never gave up and kept attacking strongly but towers defence was resolute and never wilted. Further points from Kevin McGibney who had an outstanding game and Adam Doyle and Eoin Halpin maintained Towers lead and late goals from Conor Fleming and Sean Ryan sealed victory for Towers.

The trophy was presented by Dublin all-star Paul Flynn to the winning captain Conor Fleming after the match.
