Update on Monastery Road Development 21st November 2012
A Chairde, The All Weather Pitch and Skills Wall are complete and have been in use by our teams since February and I think it’s fair to say it has been a huge success giving our players a first class floodlit facility. We have hosted the local primary schools to showcase the facilities and in conjunction with our Games Promotion Officer there will be a series of blitz type tournaments held this school year to continue its promotion and hopefully prove to be a magnet to the future generation.
The Main Grass Pitch has been re-laid complete with a new drainage system which has been well tested over the summer months and performed more than adequately. It has been a challenging year for proper grass growth and there is a vigorous programme to commence over the coming weeks to include weed control, fertilising and scarifying which should bring us very close to handover. We are confident that the grass pitch will be ready for play before the end of October. Cost to date is €556,437 which has been funded by a combination of Lotto & GAA grants and members contributions.
At this point, members have donated €109,279 which is remarkable in challenging times and a credit to our membership. Remaining works include the main grass pitch fencing and floodlighting will cost in the region of €150,000 which we hope to commence over the coming months but will obviously be subject to funding. We have applied to the latest Capital Grant Scheme from the Dept of Sport and are hopeful of being successful in the forthcoming awards but we are also very much dependant on the continued financial support of our members and friends. The outstanding balance on completed works to date is €40,000 which equates to approximately 120 further contributions of €250 when you factor in the additional tax rebates.
To those who have made contributions the club will be eternally grateful and we humbly ask you to continue your support whether it’s through the monthly direct debit or lump sum payment. Changed circumstances might enable others to contribute and we are appealing to our members to ensure we see this project delivered in its full glory to be enjoyed for many years by our members and the wider community of Clondalkin. We would also ask our members and supporters to bring the progress of the development to the attention of businesses or friends who they believe might be interested in assisting us.
