Round Towers is appealing to club members and friends to provide assistance and ideas to allow it celebrate Lá na gClub and its importance to the Clondalkin community.

The club and the GAA are keen to replicate the success of last year’s day. The day, designated this year for Sunday May 9th, affords the club the opportunity to celebrate with members and friends its importance to Clondalkin. The theme for Lá na gClub this year is Youth Through Volunteerism
The Club is appealing to volunteers to come forward and help make the day a success. People can assist by helping out on the day or by organising an event (suggestions are provided below).
Last year’s day proved to be a great success, with events organised indoors and outdoors. They included kids football and hurling games; poc and kick fada competitions; egg & spoon, sack, three-legged and wheelbarrow races; a barbecue; Irish dancing and traditional Irish music. The annual club Mass was brought forward to coincide with the day.
The GAA has put forward a list of ideas for how clubs can participate and these are listed below. Anyone who is interested in helping out or offering ideas can contact club secretary Niall Connaughton at 087 6290870 or e-mail info@roundtower.ie

The following is a list of suggestions the GAA has put forward for consideration for the day:
  • Establish a committee to plan and organise events including representation from the youth section
  • Liaise with local schools
  • Place youth activity at the centre of your events in the form of blitzes or other underage activity
  • Involve Scór na nÓg
  • Hold a family BBQ
  • Invite the wider community to visit your club and join in the activities
  • Actively seek new volunteers to become involved
  • Present a “Lá na gClub 2010 youth award” for outstanding contribution of a young member
  • Hold an Oíche na gClub to involve youth in the form of table quiz/disco/céilí
  • Create festive atmosphere around club grounds
  • Parade through your locality
  • Promote the day through your local media, include in clubs notes, website and club newsletters
  • Promote awareness of townland names amongst underage members by holding a townland competition
  • Use the opportunity to also promote Ladies Football, Camogie, Handball and Rounders
