Junior hurlers go from strength-to-strength

Following on from Thursdays win away to Commercials the Towers junior hurlers were again on the road in a table topping clash against Realt Dearg.Played at Drimnagh Castle Towers unbeaten league form for the last two seasons was again on the line. With Realt Dearg joint top of the table this was definitely a game that Towers needed to win to put themselves in a strong position to win back to back promotions. Towers started strongly in the first half and an Eoin Ryan goal put them on their way. Another goal from Eoin and a spread of points saw Towers very much on top but the home team came right back into with a few frees and a couple of goals to lead coming up to half time.Another deft flick over the goalie from Eoin nearly saw him get a first half hat trick but it went just over the bar for a point.Half time saw Towers trailing by a couple of points with the home team determined to push home their advantage.

The second half saw Towers determined to maintain their unbeaten record and right from the start they put pressure on the home team with a few points . A long range free from Eoin Ryan landed in the square at pace and with a number of players claiming to have got the last touch it ended up in the net. Afterwards back in the clubhouse it was decided that Philip Carroll  was the player who got the decisive touch. This gave Towers an advantage which they added to as the game progressed with a number of sliothars from pointed frees by Eoin Ryan ending up in the castle moat. With 2-9  and an assist with the goal it was a good contribution on the day.

The final whistle saw Towers winners by five but it could easily have been more .A very strong performance overall but there’s always room for improvement .With championship coming up next it’s important that we can get as many lads as possible down training as the team goes in search of a double. New players are as always more than welcome on board as we continue to build for the future. With manager Fergal McDonagh on the pitch, thanks to Declan Rafferty,John Weafer Snr and Ger Kessie for stepping in on the sideline. The team now has 5 from 5 in the league and 2 from 2 in the championship.
