Inter Footballers travel to Round Towers Lusk this Tuesday at 7.30pm –  Quarter Finals of Junior Championship

Round Tower 0-13 Clontarf 1-7

After comfortably beating the pre-Championship favourites, Raheny, in the previous round by ten points, Round Towers Intermediate Footballers made hard work of this tie against less vaunted, but no less committed opposition.

Dermot Milton opened the scoring for Towers with a free and the home side enjoyed most of the play in the opening exchanges, before a poor clearance from defence allowed Clontarf to pick out a spare man in attack who made no mistake from close range.

Eric Finn was running riot and the Clontarf defense, playing with a sweeper, had no answer to his pace. A combination of good goalkeeping, the woodwork and bad luck denied Eric a first half hattrick.

Justin McGrane was on target for four first half points, two from play, but overall a host of scoring chances went astray and the teams went into the break level on 1-2 to 0-5 each when Towers should have been out of sight.

Five Towers points in a row in the second half from McGrane, Paul Clifford, Eric Finn and Stephen McGibney (2) saw Towers gain control before McGibney and Finn both missed goal chances from tight angles on the left.

Podge McKeever tagged on a point after appearing as a substitute before Eric Finn scored the last point of the game. Not a vintage performance by any means, but finding themselves in the next round is all that matters at this stage.

Round Towers: K Graham, S O’Donnagain, J Egan, S Owens, N Corless, C O’Broin, P Clifford (0-1), D Murray, D Banks, D Milton (0-1), J Murphy, G Hickey, J McGrane 0-5), S Homan, E Finn (0-2)

Subs: S McGibney (0-3) for S Homan P McKeever (0-1) for D Milton
