Hundreds of children from Dublin and Wicklow are gathering this Saturday at Monastery Road for the Hurling Summerfest Finals. GAA supporters, parents, club members and the community are encouraged to support this exciting competition and celebration.
Under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s will compete from 10am with the day’s sport expected to run up to around 2pm. Towers will be competing in the competitions along with teams from Ballyboden St Enda’s, Commercials, Lucan Sarsfields, Faughs, Skerries Harps, St Mark’s and Bray Emmets. Around 300 children are expected to take part and the fixture list is provided below.
A barbecue will feed the competitors and supporters on the morning and the club shop will also be open.
Special thanks are due to Sean Cannon & Eric Byrne who has realised this idea and it is something the other clubs have been keen to be involved in. Sean and Eric have spent many hours up in Monastery Road cutting the grass to ensure our club is showcased in the right manner for all the visiting clubs.
Thanks to referee co-ordinator Dean Alford who has organised all the referee’s for all the games and Martina & Dawn who will be running the club shop. We’re also very grateful to Mark Hampson of cakeman.ie, who organised all the cups and shields to be sponsored by local business.
The day will feature:
- An U8’s final for a cup and also a final for a shield (Round Towers playing for the shield).
- An U9’s final for a cup & for a shield (in this Round Towers have been unbeaten and will be playing Ballyboden St Enda’s).
- An U10’s final for the cup and one for the shield (Round Towers playing for the shield)
- In camogie, four teams are having a one-day blitz, with each playing a semi final and winners play for cup and runners up play off for shield.
This promises to be an very exciting competion and venture for the club and support is very welcome and encouraged. Let’s hope the weather plays its part for what should prove to be a great day.
