Update from Camógs – from strength to strength

Round Towers juvenile camogie continues to go from strength to strength. This weekend we put out an under 12 team, two teams at under 10, two teams at under 9 and three teams at under 8 level for the start of the go games fixtures.

Towers under 9s put out two competitive teams against Erin’s Isle and Commericals on Sunday in Monastery Road. First up were two physically strong Erin’s Isle teams. Undaunted our girls settled into the games quickly. Our emphasis the last few weeks was on lifting the ball as we are now playing at a level where you can do so. And it was fantastic to see some of the girls getting the ball into their hand and striking it down the field. With a bit more practice all the girls will be able to do this soon…so keep practicing! In both matches Round Towers came out on top. Next up was Commercials and again the girls did really well. Team work was on show and resulted in some good scores while battling hard to keep the ball out of the net at the other end. Overall a great start to the season showing huge potential for all the players but most importantly a great team bond is developing.

The importance of team sports for girls cannot be underestimated and the confidence it gives to each player is wonderful to see. Camogie under 9s (born 2008) train on Wednesdays at 4.30-5.30 in Monastery Road. New players are always welcome. Contact Angela on 087-2453775 for more information.
