The Annual Eugene Garrigan Memorial Tournament will be played Thursday 5th March at Monastery Road. Once again a Round Tower selection will take on the Irish Prison Service, with the proceeds going to the Gavin Glynn Foundation (details below). Throw-in will be 8.15pm. About the Gavin Glynn Foundation
The Gavin Glynn Foundation has been created in Gavin’s legacy to help children and families battling childhood cancer in Ireland and who need to travel overseas for treatment. The charity’s mission is to assist families with:
1: Travel Assist program which includes:
• Transportation (eg. Flights, Car Hire, ground transport)
• Accommodation within, or close to, the designated medical center.
• Food and living expenses for the duration of the child’s treatment while abroad.
2: NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) Testing.
• Next generation molecular testing which uses genetic information to determine the right treatment, for the right patient, at the right time.
3: To provide funding for prompt cost-effective second opinions and a referral system to selected cancer centers worldwide, so patients can be matched with appropriately focused physicians and scientists; and to support families who need to travel for treatment.
To date, the charity has supported 96 families who have needed to travel overseas for treatment or require international 2nd opinions.
