Clondalkin natives may have noticed a new arrival to Main Street in recent weeks. No it’s not a new shop but a brand new outdoor, 24 hour public access defibrillator. For 10 months the Ciarán Carr Foundation has been planning the installation of the device and it has been installed in the last number of weeks. The defibrillator is located in the centre of Main Street, Clondalkin.
As part of the Ciarán Carr Foundation Fun Run / Walk 2014, we wanted to install life saving defibrillators at various locations around Clondalkin. Built up estates such as Cherrywood, Neilstown, Bawnogue, Greenpark and the Dutch Village all had defibrillators placed in indoor key locations such as shops and pharmacies.
However, the most ambitious part of our plan was to place one outdoors on the main artery running through Clondalkin village. This new device is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to every member of the public should it be required. We hope that it will never have to be used and that it simply sits on the wall and acts as a reassurance to passers by.
