About

The Ciarán Carr Foundation is a charity aligned with Round Tower GAA Club Clondalkin. If you have any questions or enquiries please do not hesitate to contact us either on Facebook or by email at ciarancarrfoundation@gmail.com

Mission

The Ciarán Carr Foundation aims to achieve the following within Round Tower GAA Club and the wider Clondalkin Community with the hope that others will join with us:
i) Screen each player at least every two years, this consists of each playing member completing the GAA approved cardiac questionnaire and in the future being screened by a medical professional
ii) Train every manager and coach in the use of a defibrillator and life saving CPR. Mentors are the first to respond to a player who gets into cardiac complications and such a skill is vital to ensure the best possible chance of survival
iii) Promote awareness. There are signs and symptoms and a knowledge of these can save lives
iv) Set an example for other clubs, regardless of sport, to join with us and prevent this happening to other communities

Description

On January 20th 2012 Ciarán Carr collapsed and died while training with his local GAA Club, Round Towers Clondalkin. He was a healthy, fit and full of life twenty year old. Such an unexpected and tragic event brought Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) to the forefront of the minds of many in the local community and beyond. The Ciarán Carr Foundation has been established to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen within our community again. By setting an example to other sporting clubs and organisations we hope they will come on board and join in our battle against cardiac risk to those who are most vulnerable.
