Unfortunately due to the terrible weather that is forecast for this Sunday, a decision has been taken to cancel the Lá na gClub/Family Day. The event will be rescheduled and we regret any inconvencience this cancellation may cause. It is very important to note the pitch development sod turrning will still proceed as planned at 4pm, with GAA President-elect Liam O’Neill turning the sode and Dublin county footballers and hurlers also in attendance. We encourage all members to turn up for this historic occasion for the club.
HISTORIC DAY FOR ROUND TOWER GAA CLUB AS SOD TURNED ON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Lá na gClub lines up a host of fun activities
Press release
The first sod on Round Tower GAA Club’s state-of-the-art and historic €750,000 Monastery Road development will take place on Sunday June 12th, a day the club will bring the Clondalkin community together to celebrate Lá na gClub, the day of the club.
It will be a momentous day in the club’s 127 year history and will mark the beginning of a new era for the delivery of sporting facilities for the community of Clondalkin. The day’s events will be held at the club’s Monastery Road playing pitches, with the sod turning taking place at 4pm and Lá na gClub running from 2pm to 5.30pm.
Liam O’Neill, President-elect of the GAA, will turn the sod to signal the commencement of work for the pitch development project. This will see work begin on the construction of an all-weather playing surface, a hurling skills wall and remedial work undertaken on the playing surface of the existing main pitch. Joining the President-elect and club members for the occasion will be representatives of the Dublin senior football and hurling panels.
The sod turning is just one part of a day that will feature sports games, music, dancing, food and general entertainment for all of the family. Lá na gClub has been run by the club since 2007 and brings the community and, in particular, families together for a day of fun and enjoyment.
This year’s event is bigger than those that have gone before and activities lined up for children and adults include: mini football and hurling games; Poc Fada (Long Puck) challenges; skill games; rounders; tug of war; egg and spoon, wheelbarrow and three-legged races; and the Mam and Dad Steeplechase.
Complementing these games will be a barbeque, music, Irish dancing and refreshments.
Niall Connaughton, Round Tower GAA Club Secretary says: “This will be an historic and momentous day for the club and the start of an enduring legacy that will be with the people of Clondalkin for generations to come. Lá na gClub is a celebration for the community and has particular appeal for children and families. We want to extend an invitation to our members and the wider Clondalkin community to join us for a day of fun activities and entertainment. This is a unique event that brings people together on an annual basis and we expect this year’s Lá na gClub to build on the success of those that have been running since 2007.”
The Round Tower GAA Club website, www.roundtower.ie, will carry more information about the Lá na gClub event.
