Welcome to the Executive Committee update for May 2025.
Below are some of the positive developments across all aspects of club life which were reported on at the meeting. Each of the updates aligns to at least one of the four core values identified in our Towers Abú Strategy (Excellence, Respect, Integrity, One Club – One Identity)
Fundraising & Finance (Towers Abú Value: Excellence)
You will have recently seen our fundraising thermometer at the entrance to Monastery Road. Our fundraising committee is undertaking a targeted sponsorship drive with a goal of €50,000 to power player development and secure the future of Round Tower GAA Club.
We are calling on local businesses to join us in this Annual Fundraising Drive! Your support plays a vital role in developing our players, nurturing young athletes, and strengthening our community in Clondalkin.
Every contribution helps build a lasting legacy—investing in our teams, our future, and the spirit of the club. Stand with us, support your club, and be part of something bigger!
Gaelic4Girls at Round Towers (Towers Abú Value: One Club – One Identity)
The Gaelic4Girls program at Round Towers, run in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), concluded a 10-week program with over 50 girls in attendance. This initiative provided a fun, inclusive, and supportive introduction to Gaelic football, encouraging skill development and fostering a love for the game among young female players.
Keith Bracken, our Coaching and Games Officer would like to extend a huge thank you to all the girls who took part, bringing great energy and enthusiasm to the session.
Special appreciation goes to our dedicated coaches and volunteers, whose hard work and encouragement ensured a fantastic start to the program.
Our final session concluded with Dublin footballers Hannah Tyrell and Leah Caffrey visiting the girls. These players are now being integrated to their respective teams.
Green Committee (Towers Abú Value: Excellence, Integrity)
The Green Club Committee, led by Sinéad Curran, has been working to make changes to our energy usage by reducing our carbon emissions. You may have noticed over the last two weeks that our floodlights on the main pitch and astro areas have been retrofitted with LEDs, this we will reduce our dependency on fossil fuel, we estimate saving 7 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum. Solar PV have been installed on our dressing room building in Monastery road as the club moves to renewable energy, again reducing carbon emissions and saving electricity bills.
This project has been made possible by the support of the South Dublin County Council Community Climate Action Fund, as the Green Club works on effective sustainability actions to tackle climate change that will benefit the club and the wider community.
We presented this project to the Minister for Environment recently at the launch of Dublin Climate Action week in Malahide Castle. We have also worked with the wider community groups, Clondalkin Tidy Towns and South Dublin Council County climate action team to plant trees on green spaces throughout Clondalkin, with the first of these projects kicking off in Oakwood Grove recently, undertaking a soil preparation for a mini woodland. Sinéad would like to thank Alternative Energy Ireland who supported the solar panel installation, AL Read for the floodlight retrofitting and club member Joe Ledwidge for his support in helping with WiFi networking at Monastery Road for the solar panels.
Safeguarding & Garda Vetting (Towers Abú Value: Excellence, Integrity)
Led by our Children’s Officer, Michelle Walsh, the club has successfully completed and submitted the national child safeguarding risk assessment which is a mandatory requirement for all clubs nationally.
This year the club hosted Ken Fitzgerald from Cuala to deliver two sessions for mentors and one for camp assistants. We also hosted a first aid course for mentors to ensure we have a first aider on sidelines, and while this is not mandatory, it is best practice.
The full assessment is available to download here on the club website, and is displayed in the club house.
