The Under 11 girls continued their league campaign at home to St. Brigid’s at the Community Centre on April 2nd, match report by Maria Shannon.
Just hours before the Under 14’s victorious Feile win, the under 11 girls took on St. Brigid’s as part of their all county league.
The sun was beating down on the Community Centre pitch as the morning throw-in helped ease some of the nerves.
Three of the Tower’s players were feeling slightly anxious, with their older sisters playing later that day, but that didn’t hamper another great performance.
The mentors have been encouraging the girls to use and create space during their games, this lead to some excellent passing and play from them and plenty of goals and points being scored(although, it is Go Games, so the scores don’t count).
Our defensive line held their own against some strong Brigid’s players but they got the ball out easily, using their wings to reach their half and full forward lines.
The mentors have also been helping he girls in training to use both feet when they’re playing, encouraging them to use their non-dominant foot when it comes to kick passing the ball to one of their team mates or getting it out of the danger zone.
After a strong match, many of the girls hightailed it to Swords as part of the travelling Towers contingent to cheer on the under 14’s as they marched to victory.
The Under 11’s are always on the lookout for new players, they train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, for more information contact Ken Byrne on 087 998 3484
