“We want kids to avail of the wonderful benefits of playing Gaelic Games,” James Glancy Round Tower Games Promotions Officer comments. James is commenting as a new Gaelic Games season commences, with the club’s 40+ teams gearing up for games at juvenile and adult level.
He’s encouraging parents of children who’d be interested in playing Gaelic Games to look at what the club has to offer. The club’s Nursery takes place every Saturday morning and is coaching the skills of football and hurling to boys and girls aged from four to seven years of age. Boys and girls teams represent the club in hurling, football and camogie from Under 8 level right up to the Minor grade.
“We want parents to be aware our juvenile section is very welcoming for new children who want to learn the skills of Gaelic Games,” he states. “Children are taught the skills of Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie by accredited coaches and the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment. Playing our national games brings fantastic health and social benefits for children that can be beneficial throughout their lives. The kids really enjoy the buzz of training or participating in matches and great friendships are formed. We’re becoming increasingly aware of our obligations to lead healthy lives and becoming involved with Gaelic Games from a young age is one way of encouraging your child to be active and healthy. The majority of people enjoying the benefits of playing GAA at adult level have been training and playing games since they were children. It is an enjoyable activity that very often remains a fulfilling constant in your life.”
The Nursery takes place every Saturday morning from 10am – 11.30am. At present it is taking place indoors at Collinstown Park Community College but it will move to Round Tower’s state-of-the-art all-weather playing surface at Monastery Road when weather is more appropriate for children to be outdoors. “Our nursery, which is very kindly sponsored by the Irish Fairy Door Company, focusses on teaching the skills of GAA in a fun manner,” James explains. “We have a series of games and activities that are facilitated by our coaches in this respect. The kids get great enjoyment out of it every Saturday morning and are eager to return every week. We’re actively visiting schools to ensure local children, their teachers and parents are aware of the nursery and we want new kids to come on board. It’s understandable if parents are wary and I’d just encourage them to try it out, see the set up and meet with the coaches involved.”
Teams throughout the juvenile section are always seeking new players to participate and they can do so on a trial basis. Contact details are available for each of the juvenile times on the Round Tower website.
“Clondalkin has fantastic representation in Gaelic Games and the success of the Dublin footballers – with the club’s very own Jim Gavin – and hurlers are heightening the enthusiasm for the games,” James states. “What Round Tower offers are unrivalled playing facilities at Monastery Road and a fantastic community spirit. We want children in Clondalkin to reap the benefits of what we have to offer.”
James is keen to speak with any parents interested in enabling their children play GAA and he can be contacted at 086 4082561.
