AHL9: Round Tower 7-11 v O’Dwyers 0-0
Playing our first league match at home this year there was another good turn out on Sunday for the Junior hurlers V O’Dwyers, writes John Quinlan. Even with a few players unavailable due to various reasons we still had 21 players togging out which was very positive and hopefully can be continued throughout the season. As we had to play 13 a side it meant that everyone didn’t get as much game time as they would have liked. Playing with a strong wind Towers took control of the game from the start and built up a strong first half lead with some good scores from Hutch, Chris Kavanagh and Darren Gilligan amongst others.
Despite playing against the elements in the second half we continued to put together some good passages of team play and with Philip Caroll scoring a few goals we were never in any danger running out convincing winners on an 8-11 to 0-4 score line.
While O’Dwyers on the day weren’t as strong as in previous years we still put together a good team performance and continued the winning start to the league. We will face tougher matches throughout the year but if we can continue to play as a team and put into practice what we do at training such as taking on our man we have every chance of doing well in the league.
