U13 Cup Semi-final Saturday 4th October, 2014
Round Towers Clondalkin 8-11 vs Round Towers Lusk 4-6
This has been a great first year for the U13 girls, who are sponsored by Fergal Cadden of Cadden’s Pharmacy, Clondalkin!
They were runners-up in their division in the league and are now through to the Cup final. The semi-final took place at Moyle Park College and there were plenty of supporters as the boys’ U13 hurlers were also playing at that venue. Round Towers Lusk fielded 11 players which meant a few changes for our Clondalkin team.
Katelyn Lynch, who is new to the Clondalkin area and to the team, narrowly missed a goal before Chloe Morris scored a lovely goal and put us on the scoreboard for the first time. Clondalkin’s backs, including Chloe Fallon Corcoran, Hannah Clarke and Rebecca Condon prevented the Lusk girls from scoring for most of the first half. Emma O’Malley and Aisling Seery were powerful at midfield and Eibhlín Roebuck, just back after an injury, defended well also. Julia O’Flannery had a great first half, racing down the wing and managing to score 3-3 before the half-time whistle blew! Round Towers Clondalkin were 15 points ahead at half-time, Lusk having scored 1-4 at that stage.
The Clondalkin girls continued to work well together in the second half, catching high balls and passing accurately as they worked the ball forward. Ava Dowd, usually seen in defence, came on as a forward and kicked in a strong goal. Erin Griffiths made a great save and kicked long balls out towards midfield. Another goal from Julia O’ Flannery and points from Julia, Katelyn Lynch, Emma O’Malley and Lauren Duffy meant that Clondalkin could bring on more of the players waiting on the sideline. The Lusk girls scored a few times in the second half but couldn’t match the strength and determination of the Clondalkin girls. Best of luck to Round Towers Clondalkin in the cup final. Let’s hope they get the support and result they deserve!
