Monastery Road, Round Tower GAA Club’s newly developed premier sporting facility, will be transformed on 19th April for a historic Gala dinner that will commence a weekend of celebration to mark the official opening of the sporting development.
GAA President Liam O’Neill, Chairman of the Dublin County Board Andy Kettle, Secretary of the County Board John Costello, club officials, members, supporters and representatives of the Clondalkin and wider Dublin GAA community will assemble for the historic occasion. Over 250 guests will assemble in a purpose built marquee that will be erected on Monastery Road and they will enjoy a three-course meal, musical entertainment from popular club entertainers Cool Breeze, and a full bar. The Gala dinner will begin the celebrations and the following day Saturday 20th April, the Dublin senior footballers will play an inter-county fixture at Monastery Road to mark its official opening. In what will prove to be a weekend of immense pride for the 129 year old club, Clondalkin native and Round Tower GAA Clubman Jim Gavin will bring his Dublin footballers to the Monastery Road. Further details regarding the opposition, time of throw in and details of the official blessing of Monastery Road will be announced imminently.
Round Tower GAA Club Chairman Tony Delaney commented: “The official opening of Monastery Road is an historic occasion for this club that has served the Clondalkin and wider GAA community for 129 years.”
The two year development works on Monastery Road have to date delivered state-of-the-art playing facilities that include a sand/soil-based playing surface that is one of the finest grass playing surfaces in GAA circles, an all-weather floodlit synthetic floodlit playing surface and a 23 metre skills wall.
The next phase will be to floodlight the main pitch and enclose it with a perimeter fence which the club hopes to complete this year with the continued support of members and friends.
