Round Towers under 11 hurling team were invited to St.Kevin’s for the Four Sundays of November tournament to compete against St.Jude’s, St.Kevin’s and Setanta. Having won our first three matches, we entered into a semi-final meeting against St.Kevin’s on the last Sunday of the tournament. The match was fast and furious but Towers prevailed to earn a place in the final against Setanta. This proved to be the match of the day as opening scores from both sides kept the game at a very lively pace and the half time score was close but in favour of Towers. The hurling in the second half was immense, with both sides putting their bodies into the fray with abandonment, but Towers midfielders Alex(Sledge) O’Neill and Sean(Chopper) Hampson were too wily for the Northsiders and Towers started to pull ahead. A fine point by Dara(Buster) Byrne saw the heads of the opponents drop, but the killer blow was scored by man of the match Aidan (the Rocket) Kelly when he smashed a sliothar into the goal to send the back of the net high into the air for many a second and seal our teams victory in a very well run tournament. All credit to St.Kevin’s for their excellent organisation and hospitality. This tournament representated a very strong finish for Towers in the last game of the year.
