Round Towers 3-12 Portobello 1-9
Towers went into this league clash needing two wins from their last three games to secure the Division Eight league title and wasted no time coming quickly out of the blocks. Simon Owens scored a first minute goal followed by 1-1 by Mark Healy.
Portobello has a strong wind behind them in the first half and though they kept in touch somewhat with placed balls, Towers were much the stronger team. Damien Murray who played despite not being fully fit put in another man of the match performance in midfield, breaking up attacks and spraying the ball around when in possession. Simon Owens who found himself in the unusual position of wing forward scored 2-4 while Ger Hickey was his usual majestic self, doing a box to box job.
The second half was a scrappy affair as Towers continued to tack on points but also recorded a lot of wides. Towers emptied the bench and Portobello staged a mini-comeback scoring 1-2 without reply but Towers, far the stronger team ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next up are Kilmacud Crokes and Scoil Ui Chonail and hopefully Division 7 Football next year.
