Last Saturday our Under 16 Footballers togged out for their league semi final, their opponents Naomg Barróg. Conditions were perfect for this match and Barrógs pitch was in excellent Condition.
Winning the toss Towers decided to play with the wind in the first half hoping to get off to a good start. That’s exactly what happened with the hosts putting up scores from Joey Leech and Lu Heffernan & Daniel Mitchel in the opening minutes. The Barróg goalie denied Towers of a number of Goal chances when eventually Aaron Whelan blasted the ball into the back of the Net. However the Barróg lads didn’t drop their heads and bounced back with a number of points and a goal against the run of play just before half time. Towers led by six points at half time.
The Clondalkin men pressed on in the second half and never showed any signs of letting off with superb displays coming from every corner of the field. Corner forward Joey Leech slotting in another goal and some great defending from Conor Broderick, Matthew Kelly & Alex Judge denied Barróg from any more goals and were key in keeping Barrógs score to a minimum.
The momentum kept the Towers scoreboard ticking over and looking very comfortable with scores from Adam Hanlon & Aidan Kelly, Towers cruised on to victory.
A top class performance from every single player brought a 12 point victory 4-19 to 3-10.
Towers now face Fingallians away on Saturday in the final @ 2.30. Venue Balheary. All support welcome.
