Saturday saw our U16 footballers play their first home league match against Cuala. It was a bitterly cold day and conditions were poor however, this did not dishearten the panel of 20 players or hinder their performance. Towers had the wind in the first half and they looked the stronger team straight from the throw in. They controlled the play and held a lot of possession however it took 10 minutes for their first score with a well taken point coming from Joe Murray. Towers put the pressure on Cuala and goals by Joey Leech, Joe Murray & Aaron Whelan put Towers in the lead at half time 4-3 to 4 points. Cuala had the wind in the second half and pushed back straight from the throw in. Despite the pressure Towers defence held tough, tackling in packs and forcing the errors on the Cuala forwards and creating the overlap. Further scores by Lu Heffernan, Kevin Curran, Daniel Mitchell and a cracker of a top corner Goal by Alex o Neill finished off Cuala. Final score Towers 6-7 Cuala 1-5. The next League match is against St Maurs on the 18th February in the community centre.
