Under 11 Girls v St Vincent’s

Our Under 11 girl footballers bounced back from a tough outing last week away to Foxrock Cabinteely. With 22 Girls available this week from our panel of 37 we travelled to Marino to face St Vincent’s.

Weather wise it was a sunny day with a strong breeze. Towers played into the wind in both opening half’s. The teams went into this fixtures with a positive attitude. The Girls showed their intensity during the warm up: fighting for the ball, shielding, tackling, shoulders in front and brought the intensity from the warmup into the games.
From the throw-in our Girls played and defended as units. As a result we turned over ball, gained possession and attacked as a unit. What was pleasing about this performance was that the mentors witnessed the same pattern on both pitches. The team play/link play was excellent with some of our Girls “having a go” of kicking off the less dominant side. The girls encouraged each other from the whistle and “reset” when they should have.

Aoife Billings deserves a special mention as she showed great composure in defense. Her readying off the game was excellent. She showed the confidence to get her shoulder in front of her marker and get to the ball first, catching and clearing her lines continuously. On the kick outs Aoife made so much space for her team running to the wings and receiving/catching ball first time to continue the attack into midfield.

Well done Aoife and a very well done to the team as a unit.

This is an exciting young group of Girls and the team is always on the lookout for new players. We train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, for more information contact Ken Byrne on 087 998 3484
