Round Towers fielded two teams on Saturday to play our neighbours from the 12th Lock in Lucan. In total we had 16 Girls back for our 1st fixture following the summer break. Previous fixtures against Sarsfields have always been physical encounters so our Girls expected nothing less and Saturday’s matches lived up to our expectations. Match Report by Ken Byrne.
Let’s not forget that these games are “Go-games” giving the Girls a chance to have a go. The mentors were delighted with the girl’s response to the challenge of playing off the less dominant side of the body at recent training sessions. This focus was reiterated to the players before the throw in and the Girls responded well throughout both games with plenty of attempts, completed passes and scores off the less dominant side of the body.
Towers welcomed Aisling Mc Gratton back into the fold from a long spell on the side-line through injury; honestly it was like she never missed a game. This Girl won countless ball in the middle of the park, she harried, harassed and chased down her marker winning possession in the middle of the park.
Over all it was a rewarding team performance considering Towers were missing 14 Girls from the panel. The next couple of weeks should see the panel restored to its full.
Kim Nolan injured her wrist in training and wasn’t fit enough to play, the squad look forward to seeing Kim back on Tuesday; Kim is making great progress over the last year.
That’s the first match back from the summer rest, training resumes this Tuesday & Thursday at 5.45 on the Community Center. New players welcome, for more details call Ken on 087 9983484
