Round Towers Clondalkin U8 Girls faced Castleknock & St Maurs at Monastery Road on Sunday 13th April 2014 and team mentor Michelle Byrne provides the following report. Ted Keane pictures of the St Maurs match can be viewed here.

On the day it was intended to field two Round Towers Teams V St Maurs two teams, with Towers also hosting Castleknock V St Maurs 3rd Team. On a cold blustery morning 22 Round Tower Girls turned out in their green and white. And rather than starting with 8 Girls on the slide line, Towers decided to field a 3rd team V Castleknock, with Towers spreading their quality through the 3 teams.

This was a big last minute ask of the Girls, it meant all Girls would play two 10 minutes aside games. That was 40 minutes of football for each Girl with no substitutions and the Girls gave it their all, with fantastic footballing skills displayed throughout all matches.

This was only the Girls second outing as the Girls U8’s football team but this was not reflected in the quality of football being played. It’s great to see that the Girls are using the skills that are practised each week and the mentors can see this influencing the flow of the game. They are running out and finding space, holding their positions, marking up and finding each other during play.

Many of our Girls have come through from the nursery and are definitely influencing and supporting some of our younger less experienced team mates, hence improving their own skill sets and those of their fellow team mates.
