Round Tower’s Under 8’s girls faced Lucan Sarsfields on the Monastery Road on Sunday June 29th, match report by Maria Shannon.

Despite it being holiday season, 12 girls togged out against two Lucan Sarfields teams on a sunny Monastery Road.

All the girls got to play in different positions, from being in goal, to defence, midfield and forward and they were putting their skills to good use against their opponents.

The soccer World Cup was clearly having an influence, especially for our goalkeepers, some of whom made saves Packie Bonner would be proud of!

There was some great blocking and tackling, with a lot of side stepping and great point attempts and scoring from everyone.

Even the Dublin Hurlers, who were training on the pitch beside them, weren’t enough to distract the girls from playing two great games of football(although some of the mammies and daddies were taking their eyes off the games to have a look).

This bunch of girls have only been together a short time but their skill level and their game play has come on leaps and bounds thanks to the hard work of their mentors Ken, Michelle, Kitty and Alice who really encourage all the girls to go for it and have fun.

Our panel included: Aoife Billings, Aoife Corcoran, Maia Ezan, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Fiona Jackson, Hannah Kavanagh, Sadhbh Keane, Rebecca Nolan, Emma O’Brien, Amelia O’Sullivan, Ella O’Sullivan and Aoife Robertson.

The girls will still be training on Saturday afternoons during July at 2pm on the Monastery Road. Girls born in 2006 and 2007 are welcome to join the panel.
