The first ever Round Tower’s Gaelic 4 Fathers tournament took place in excellent conditions on the new astro pitch in Monastery Road on Saturday night.  Four teams took part, Towers, Beann Eadair, Fingallians and Newbridge Sarsfields with over 80 players involved.

The format of the rules was mainly based on Ladies Football, with low contact, but very free flowing and the players all adapted to the rules very well.  Sarsfields ran out clear winners in the end with a 100% record.

A special mention should go to Beann Eadair who  travelled with a very small squad but who ended up as shield winners thanks to some good team play and excellent goalkeeping. They might have been also thankful to the 4-5 Towers players who played for them in all their matches, but overall it was great to see them do so well after making the effort to come across.  Fingallians too, also entered into the spirit and almost won the match against BE. But with some very slick passing and superior ball skills Sarsfields were deserving winners and it was nice to see a Clondalkin man, Aidan Sharkey lift the trophy.

Ollie Dillon from Sarsfields was also awarded Player of the Tournament.  We would also like to thank all the supporters, wives, partners, kids and club supporters who attended the event.  A special mention to the referees, Philip and Robbie who kept the games flowing very well and to all who helped on the night, such as Helen O’Meara, Sue Kelly, Mick O’Meara, George Hughes and the many sons and daughters to acted as umpires, water boys etc.

Thanks also to Mark Hampson who donated the beautiful trophies and to Dave Maguire, our goalkeeper who generously donated the stock for the shop. The profits from the event are being donated to Our Lady’s Hospice in Harolds Cross, a final figure will be published soon.  A final mention to the Towers lads who continue to improve as a team.  We train twice a week and our average training numbers exceed 20 and with a little bit more luck and experience, we could have reversed some of those scorelines.  Many of our players have only recently taken up the game and it is great to see the rapid progress they are making.  New players are always welcome.
