A defibrillator presented to the Ciarán Carr Foundation by Heartsafety Solutions will be presented to a worthy local organisation seeking to create awareness surrounding Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and to protect the lives of those engaged with it.
Heartsafety Solutions have also announced its Fones4Life initiative, which sees the organisation present a defibrillator to every GAA Club that collects 300 mobile phones, will now present €50 to the Foundation for every club that reaches the target.
The Foundation has been set up in memory of Ciarán Carr, the young dual player from Clondalkin in Dublin, who collapsed and died during an indoor training session with Round Tower GAA Club’s senior footballers in January 2012. Gemma and Philip Carr, Ciarán’s parents, are behind the Foundation along with former teammates and friends of Ciarán.
Philip Carr commented; “We’re very grateful to Heartsafety Solutions for this very generous donation to the Foundation. This act of kindness will help create awareness of SADs within a local school, club or organisation and is a vital piece of equipment that may one day save a life. This defibrillator will help create further awareness surrounding the importance of defibrillators, CPR and AED within the local community and the importance of having such life-saving equipment nearby. Creating such awareness is a core ambition for the foundation.”

The Ciarán Carr Foundation aims to educate players and parents about Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and to equip those involved with the training and management of teams to deal with incidents related to this condition as they arise.
The importance of defibrillators, CPR and AED will form a central part of the education process the foundation hopes to foster. Initially the programme has targeted club friends and team mates of Ciarán through engagement with a GAA questionnaire and then an ECG and medical consultation should that need arise.
