Junior hurlers defeat Lucan in local derby.

Round Tower 4-11v Lucan Sarsfields 0-9, Junior E Hurling Championship

The junior hurlers maintained their strong start to the season by defeating local rivals Lucan in the championship on Sunday the 17th  at the Community Centre, writes John Quinlan.

With a few lads injured and away it was encouraging to still see 20 players togging out.

The early exchanges were tight enough with the teams both putting  a few points on the board. Lucan’s points were coming from frees and this trend continued throughout the match with the majority of their scores coming from placed balls. With most teams having reliable freetakers the concession of frees needs to be kept to a minimum.

Midway through the first half some good team work set up Darren Gilligan for the first of his goals. Just before half time Ciarain Brennan set up Darren for another goal to put Towers into a 2-7 to 0-5 half time lead.

Playing against the wind in the second half Towers never allowed Lucan the opportunity to settle, with everyone putting the pressure on Lucan when they had the ball. Our half back line was very solid throughout with Simon Nevin in particular starring. Taking our scores throughout the half ensured that at the final whistle we were 14 points ahead with Davy Clarke hitting 1-1 on his introduction.

Overall a good team performance from no 1 to 20 which puts us in a good position in our championship group.

Thanks to Declan Rafferty,John Weafer snr and Eoghean Young for helping out on the day.
