Under 9 girls play Ballyboden

Round Towers Under 9 girls played their first league game of 2015 at home to Ballyboden St. Enda’s on Sunday March 22nd. Match report by Maria Shannon.

Spring definitely sprung on the Monastery Road as the sun greeted our team of 18 girls as they played their first league match this year against Ballyboden St. Enda’s.

Two teams, togged out in the green and white, to play one of their closest neighbours – the first time the two sides have ever met.

From the whistle, they were put to the test by their opponents but Towers didn’t relent.

They had practiced their hand passing during the warm up beforehand and that skill was put to good use from our defenders to midfielders to forwards.

There was some excellent kicking as well, whether it was going for a point or just down the line from defence into midfield.

The girls were staying with the ball, anticipating their opponents next move and winning the ball back  – it was brilliant to watch that skill in girls who are only 8 years old.

Great first league game girls…keep it up!

A big thanks to all the mums and dads who came out – they’re the extra girl on the sidelines and are extremely supportive of everyone on the pitch.

The Under 9’s squad are always looking for new players, training is every Thursday at 5.45 on the Monastery Road. Contact Ken on 087 998 3484
