Under 9 girls continue to impress

Round Tower Under 9 girl footballers played Kilmacud Crokes in Pairc De Burca on Sunday May 31st, match report by Maria Shannon.

There may have been a gale blowing but the weather stayed dry unlike the last time Round Towers travelled to play Kilmacud Crokes.

This match had been rescheduled from April after torrential rain called off the original fixture.

In that time, our girls have been concentrating in keeping their pitch positions and practicing their blocking and it paid off.

They fought well for the ball in defence and midfield although the strong wind did send some shots on goal wide.

Every time Crokes got the ball, players were in to try and tap it out of their hands or if they took a shot, it was blocked by one of our girls.

The two 20 minute matches were full on but there were some great scores from both sides and some brilliant attempts to score by hand passing over the bar.

Well done girls, you’re flying.

Thanks to all the parents who got up early on a Bank Holiday Sunday to travel to Stillorgan and were that extra voice of encouragement on the sidelines.

The under 9 girls squad train at 5.45 every Thursday evening, new players are always welcome.
