Under 14 Footballers for League shoot-out
Our under 14 footballers faced one of their toughest challenges this year against Na Fianna on Saturday afternoon in the community centre. A win for na Fianna would make them league winners and a win for Towers would tie them for first Place with na Fianna.
Towers may have been the underdogs haven been beaten twice this year by Na Fianna, however the squad of 23 players were well up for this match as was evident from the throw in.
An early point by Alex on Neill settled the lads followed by a second point point soon after. Unfortunately against the run of play na Fianna scored a goal to take the lead by a point. Towers responded with points by Lu Heffernan and Sean Hampson and then a cracker of a goal by Joe Murray put Towers into a 1-7 to 1-1 lead at half time.
However na Fianna were not going to be put down too easy and started the second half with some early scores, towers responded with points by Dylan Maughan and Alex o Neill.
Disaster then struck, na Fianna scored a goal and came to within 2 points. Na Fianna went for the Net again but Tom Cannon pulled off a fantastic save, and the ball was worked back up to the Full forward line and Murray calmly put the ball into the back of the net with a big  cheer from  the large crowd of Towers supporters.
Towers ended up winning 2-10 to 2-5 in what was a great display of football by both teams. No doubt the league decider between these two teams in a fortnights time will be one to watch.
