Special Croke Park honor for Marie this Sunday

One of our finest stalwarts will be honored in Croke Park this Ladies Football Final Weekend. Marie Crotty made a remarkable contribution to Ladies Football thru her county and club career. And she continues to do so thru her mentoring of underage girl teams within our club.

Marie and the Waterford team of 1992 are celebrating their Silver jubilee anniversary this weekend. Waterford ran out 2-10 v 3-4 winners on the day. Marie was the first lady to score a point in Croke Park, when she was first on the scoreboard in the 1986 Junior All Ireland Football Final. She won with the county 5 Senior All Ireland Football medals, eight Munster Championships, one Junior All Ireland and one Junior Munster Championship. Marie has won a remarkable five All Star Awards and has captained Waterford to All Ireland glory. In the 1995 Final against Monaghan she was named Player of the Match, picking up one of her five all stars that All-Ireland winning year. Added to her achievements, Marie holds five All Ireland Sevens winning medals and helped Munster Ladies achieve nine Inter-Provincial All Ireland honors.

With her native Ballymacarbry, she has claimed an exceptional 10 All Ireland Senior Championships – seven of them in a row. She won 14 Munster Championships with them. Marie and her teammates of 1992 will be honored with a special function and the team will be introduced to the crowd at half-time. Provided is the Waterford team pen pictures from that 1992 All Ireland, with Marie featured. Also provided are two pictures from the game (apologies for the poor quality).

Marie has made an outstanding contribution towards the development of Ladies Gaelic Football within the club, and in April she guided the Under 14 Ladies to Dublin Féile success (read here). She has recently been appointed as part of the Dublin Under 16 Development Squad coaching team for 2018.

Round Tower GAA Club extends a very special congratulations to Marie for the honor being afforded to her and her past teammates this weekend. We are immensely proud of your accomplishments and wish you a throughly enjoyable and very special day.
