Junior A Hurlers march on

Round Towers 1-18 Wild Geese 1-8.

On a very wet Sunday afternoon the junior hurlers took to the field at the Community centre for their fourth championship match of the season. With three wins to date the this was an opportunity for the team to consolidate their position at the top of the table and get a home draw for the knock out stages.

Towers started the stronger with a couple of points to open the scoring before the Geese opened their account. The first half was even enough with a goal from Eoin Ryan been cancelled out by a fine individual goal from one of the Geese midfielders. At half time playing against the elements Towers enjoyed a slender 1-8 to 1-6 lead .

The opening to the second half saw Towers hit two fine points with Eoin Ryan slotting over from an acute angle and Niall Corless scoring from distance. This settled the team and allied to the elements in our favour Towers pushed on from here. Declan Rafferty  standing in for the absent John Delaney was solid throughout in goals behind a well settled defence with Niall Barry and Fergal Power to the fore. The Geese who needed to go for goals couldn’t find a way through and the final whistle saw Towers enjoy a ten point win and head the table on four wins out of four.

While the team can now look forward to knock out championship they know that they will need to up their performance if they are to bring home the championship silverware . With a determined effort over the next few months the team has a great opportunity to win a double to add to the league won last year.
