Under 16’s maintain excellent winning run

Last Saturday our U16 Footballers togged out for their fifth round league clash, their opponents Naomh Barrog from Kilbarrack. It was a beautiful spring day in Clondalkin and the pitch had just been freshly lined thanks to Tony Quinn.

Conditions were perfect for a match that was going to be tough & physical for both teams. Towers were hoping to get off to a good start but Barrog had the same intention and got off to the better start claiming the first 2 points of the match. Towers counter attacked and made a lot of good runs forward however they failed to capitalise with 6 wides and 3 attemps for points dropping short in the goalies hands. Barrog continued to put the pressure on but a counter attack by Alex Judge, Sean Hampson & Joe Murray saw the ball in the back of Barrog’s net. That didn’t stop Barrog and they kept piling the pressure and were deprived of a goal with some great saves by Oisin Douglas who maintained a clean sheet during the first half. Towers lead at half time 2-5  to 4 points.

As expected Naomh Barrog came out all guns blazing in the second half scoring an unanswered goal & a point within the first 5 minutes. Joe Murray stepped up to the mark and scored 2 brilliant goals and a point. Barrog conceded a penalty, unfortunately Towers failed to capitalise and Borrogs goalie pulled off a brilliant save. More points were exchanged with Joey Leech & Lu Heffernan scoring. Final score Towers 4-8 Naomg Barrog 2-7.

The lads have the first round of the championship in 2 weeks time.
