Under 12 hurlers proudly represent club at Camaint

Parnell Park was the venue as Round Towers under 12s hurlers took on St Sylvesters in their Division 3 Camaint semi final on Saturday August 29th, writes Robbie Doyle. Camaint is a summer hurling competition where the first and third quarters are ground hurling only and the second and fourth are normal rules .

Both teams started the game well , but it was the Malahide team who were first on the scoreboard with a point. Following good work by Robert Moore and Cian Hampson out the field the ball came to Cathal Callaly who crashed the sliothar to the net for a Towers goal .

The Malahide side then replied with a goal of their own to put them one point ahead . Tremendous hassling of a St Sylvesters defender by Cathal Callaly saw the ball fall to Odhrán Doyle who smashed the sliothar to the net for Towers second goal . St sylvesters fought back again and they replied with their second goal .

As half time approached Towers were awarded a 65 . Robert Mooore put it over the bar to leave the sides level at half time , 02-01 to 02-01. It was time to draw breath after a pulsating first half were both sides fought like warriors to give their side an edge.

With the wind against them for the second half the omens were not good for Towers . Try as they might , they could not add to their half time tally .St Sylvesters had made good use of the wind and had added on 4 points and looked set for victory .

With a minute to go Towers were awarded a free . Fintan Boyle was urged by his mentors to go for a goal . He did , but a tremendous save by a St Sylvesters defender saw the ball go over the bar for a point. From the ensuing puck out Towers won the ball and put it back into their forwards . The sliothar fell to Odhrán Doyle who crashed it to the net to leave the score at full time , Towers 03-02 , St Sylvesters 02-05 .

Extra time with a difference then followed .Whoever got the first score would win the game . Unfortunately for Towers , St Sylvesters got a goal and went on to the final . The 19 Towers boys represented their club brilliantly and their fighting spirit bodes well as they start back their league matches on September 12th . Team pictures provided below.
